Emergency crews were called to the Sherridon area of the city just after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, due to reports of a fire.

The RCMP reported that local firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and discovered a dead body upon entering the garage. The deceased was transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner.

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is continuing an investigation into the incident. A fire investigator is also in the process of determining the cause of the blaze; police do not believe the fire was suspicious.

The identity of the deceased has not been released to the public. An autopsy was expected to be performed on Tuesday, Nov. 22 to determine the cause of death, however, the results of the autopsy were not yet made public by the time of print.
