About the role

The Digital Marketing Executive plays a significant role in shaping the strategy, planning and optimisation of Bell Shakespeare’s digital marketing programs, delivering communications and brand experiences across all owned digital channels including social media, email marketing and the company website to promote our productions, programs and other initiatives and to achieve engagement, conversion, audience development and revenue goals. 

This is a full time role that requires a degree of flexibility. You may be expected to work outside of usual hours or additional hours to meet our changing business needs and the demands of your role, such as attending Opening Night functions and public events in The Neilson Nutshell and The Seed. 


  • In consultation with the Head of Marketing and Development, and Marketing and Communications Manager, develop and implement the digital marketing and content strategy to strengthen Bell Shakespeare’s brand; engage new and existing audiences; and generate mainstage and event ticket sales, education bookings and philanthropy income.
  • Lead development, implementation and evaluation of a social media strategy including creating copy and content in collaboration with colleagues and growing and developing new channels.
  • Develop and maintain the Company’s annual communications and content calendar.
  • Plan, write and distribute company e-newsletters, event invitations and other emails, ensuring they reflect the Bell Shakespeare brand.
  • Work closely with the ticketing team to support the delivery of customer service notifications and updates.
  • Maintain and update Bell Shakespeare’s website, including content management, page building and ongoing enhancement.
  • Own the relationship with our web agency, working alongside them on web development, including testing and delivery
  • Manage Bell Shakespeare’s social media channels to ensure a consistent tone of voice and cohesive brand narrative, delivering specific social media campaigns and overseeing community management.
  • Maintain analytics, tracking, and reporting for web and social channels.
  • Plan, track and report on Bell Shakespeare’s social advertising and other digital campaigns.
  • Optimise website and social media channels for SEO and usability.
  • Contribute to other marketing activities as required.

You are an experienced and creative digital marketing professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks at any one time. You will be an organised, detail-oriented self-starter who is personable, warm, collaborative, creative, enjoys working with people, enjoys finding better processes for effective operations and will contribute to a positive team culture. 

Selection Criteria


  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role, developing and delivering social media, digital marketing and content strategies in and arts or cultural organisation or related industry
  • A flair and passion for digital media, and demonstrated success working across previous campaigns
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing channels and familiarity with web design, including CRM experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
  • Critical thinker with problem-solving skills
  • Results driven, self-motivated and eager to improve and implement systems and processes
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing business priorities.
  • The ability to create and produce relevant content for digital marketing channels
  • Experience in briefing marketing collateral and creative designs, copywriting and SEO principles


  • Experience using Tessitura (ticketing and database) or similar CRM database
  • Experience using EDM platform (eg. Wordfly)
  • Video editing experience
  • Qualification in Marketing, Digital technologies or relevant field
  • Experience/interest in the performing arts
